Preview of Our 2016 Spring Show

It’s an election year. So it’s with great pleasure that Vocal Majority offers you some music relief from the election news cycle during our Spring Show, “Campaigning for Harmony.”

Just to be clear: there will be no partisan politics! This show is all about a man who loves his wife, how he reconnects people, and his love of America.

The show revolves around U.S. Senator who has been asked by his party to consider running for President, and he’s having second thoughts. He’s lost his enthusiasm and the commitment that prompted him to go into politics in the first place. His long-time Chief of Staff knows just what to do -- go on a whistle-stop tour of America!   Shake hands, kiss babies, talk to the people, and rediscover the fire that he has for public service.  Along the way we will hear some of the most popular music in the American songbook about this great land!

In the opening scene, the Senator reflects on the story of his great-great Grandpa who at the age of 20 landed at Ellis Island. At that moment the chorus starts singing the iconic Neil Diamond song, “Coming to America.”

As the Senator considers his run, he also realizes his schedule has taken so much of his life away from his wife that the chorus sing the touching love song “You’ll Never Know.” This song was Vocal Majority’s 2014 ballad sung in Barbershop Harmony International competition.

As the Senator starts his whistle-stop tour of America, he ventures down “Route 66,” “California Dreamin’,” and “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” As the Senator contemplates if he will really run for President, the chorus goes on to feature “Don’t Fence Me In” and “Home on the Range” before heading to Texas for the “Texas Medley.”

But it’s his wife, Georgia that the Senator misses most. And it’s then that Vocal Majority will mesmerize you as we bring back our 2009 BHS contest ballad, “Georgia On My Mind.” Then it’s to the East where the Senator stops as the chorus performs a traditional American folk song “Oh, Shenendoah.”

You’ll fall in love with America again as we perform “I Pledge My Allegiance,” “Amazing Grace,” “If I Ruled the World” (our 2010 BHS contest ballad), “An American Hymn,” and “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho.” The show wraps up with a trip to “New York, New York,” and the stirring “God Bless the USA.”

There are other great songs featured during this feel-good show. As for when you’ll find out if the Senator makes the decision to run for President, let’s just say you’ll find that out during the show!

Great seats remain for all three performances at the Eisemann Center in Richardson. If you haven’t made your reservation yet, click the link to the day and time that works for you and reserve online now!
